چکیده

Objective: Preterm infants (PI) are at increased risk of developing metabolic bone disease (MBD).This study assessed the association diuretics for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) with MBD. Study Design: This retrospective included ≤30 weeks gestation and birth weight ≤1500 grams. Infants were divided into diuretic group control group. Diuretic use was defined as hydrochlorothiazide spironolactone >7 days MBD PTH >100 mg/dL. Data analyzed using SPSS p <0.05 considered significant. Results: The 201 infants, a mean gestational age 26.31 ± 1.73 weeks. There 68 (33%) in vs. 133 (67%) 41 24% (p<0.05) who received BPD also developed 80% 20% (p<0.001) treated diuretics. Diuretics did not improve respiratory status these PI. We found given remained on ventilation longer total number (p<0.001). Conclusion: PI more likely to develop without any significant improvement

Metabolic bone disease preterm infants

Small preterm infants often develop osteopenia with or without rickets and with or without fraewres. Whether these Ilone abnormalities all form part of the same disease process with a wide spectrum of presentation or whether each abnormality represents a different disease is as yet unclear. Bone mineralization depends largely on adequate supplies of calcium and phosphate. The normal intra-uteri...

Could mean platelet volume predict developing of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome?

Introduction: some studies have suggested correlation between MPV index and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Though bronchopulmonary dysplasia is also an inflammatory disease which develops in preterm neonates with Respiratory distress syndrome, we decided to study the possible correlation between the mean platelet volume (MPV) and the occurrence of bronchopulmonary...

Dexamethasone treatment in preterm infants at risk for bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

A randomised double blind placebo controlled study was conducted to determine whether a one week course of dexamethasone could reduce the severity of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants without compromising their adrenal function. Forty one infants with a mean birth weight of 880 g and a gestational age of 27 weeks who were ventilator dependent at 10 days of age were enrolled. At the ...

Nutrition of preterm infants in relation to bronchopulmonary dysplasia

BACKGROUND The pathogenesis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is multifactorial. In addition to prenatal inflammation, postnatal malnutrition also affects lung development. METHODS A retrospective study was performed to analyse during the first two weeks of life the total, enteral and parenteral nutrition of premature infants (<31 weeks, birth weight ≤1500 g) born between 08/04 and 12/06. ...
